Teenager K!lled As Smugglers Fleeing From Custom Officials In Katsina Ram Into Bystanders

A tragic incident unfolded in Jibia town, Katsina State, where a 14-year-old boy named Ibrahim lost his life as a J5 Peugeot bus, being pursued by officials of the Nigerian Customs Service, collided with bystanders.



According to witnesses who spoke to Premium Times, the bus was being chased by officials from the Federal Operating Unit, Zone B of the Nigeria Customs Service when the accident occurred at around 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 3, 2024. The incident took place near Tudun Wada Primary School, Tashar Huraira in Jibia town.



Eyewitness Buhari recounted, “We were sitting in front of Mai Masara filling station when the accident occurred. The J5 driver was at high speed trying to run away from the customs officials when he lost control of the steering wheel and ran into a crowd, but only the boy got crushed. We were lucky too. Other people were lucky to escape.”

The eyewitness further mentioned that the customs van reversed and returned to their checkpoint after the accident.


Ibrahim Musa, the teenager's father, shared the heart-wrenching experience, stating, “I was on the farm around 11 a.m. when my nephew rushed to inform me of the incident. When I reached the scene, he was already dead. His body was severely damaged by the vehicle.”


As a peasant farmer, Musa explained that onlookers and other family members transported the boy's body to the Divisional Police Office in Jibia, from where they were directed to the hospital. Unfortunately, the hospital confirmed the boy's tragic demise.
