Tinubu Urges EFCC to Intensify Efforts Against Cybercrimes

President Bola Tinubu has urged the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to maintain its robust stance in combating internet crimes and corruption. This call was made during a one-day public engagement on youth, religion, and the fight against corruption, as well as the launch of the Fraud Risk Assessment Project for Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) organized by the EFCC in Abuja on January 31, 2024.


Addressing the gathering, the President highlighted the global challenge of cybercrimes and emphasized the need for the EFCC to address it vigorously. Tinubu rejected the pejorative label of internet crimes as the "Nigerian scam" and underscored the global nature of cybercrimes. He affirmed the government's commitment to supporting the EFCC in its efforts to combat these offenses, stating that cybercriminals pose a threat to the entire world.


Speaking through Vice President Kashim Shettima, Tinubu reiterated the government's determination to tackle corruption head-on. He emphasized that the pursuit of growth and development requires a simultaneous crackdown on corrupt practices. Tinubu instructed the EFCC to perform its duties without any extraneous considerations, asserting that the government's Renewed Hope agenda is unwavering in its commitment to combating corruption.
